High School Year in China

Go on a high school year in China and discover an ancient land that is developing faster than any other country in the world. By choosing to live and study in China, you can be part of this new and exciting development.

China is emerging as one of the three superpowers of the world, next to the European Union and the USA. It has a total population of over 1.3 billion people, a booming economy and amazing opportunities. There is a varied landscape from mountains to plains, wealthy coastal areas to the agricultural center. Depending on where you are placed you will be able to discover this unique country from your own viewpoint.

There are many things for you to do during your exchange year in China. Visit places of historical interest and learn about local customs and traditions. You could learn how to play the ‘pipa’ or ‘liuqin’, a four-stringed musical instrument or take a course in Chinese calligraphy.

China is world famous for its delicious Chinese cuisine! In China you will find that every region has its own distinctive flavors. Make sure to sample cuisine from Sichuan, Shandong, Jiangsu and Guangdong (Cantonese). The cuisine styles are distinctive from region to region due to the lifestyle differences as well as variations in climate, geography, history and cooking techniques. Perhaps you might even take a cooking class or learn to cook some of your new region’s dishes with your host family.

EF will offer China as a high school destination from August 2013. If you are interested studying in a Cantonese and/or Mandarin speaking host country next year we recommend you apply for a high school year in Hong Kong.
